Good point. It's certainly possible that at some point in the 39 years my truck's been around that the doors and tailgate had been swapped. I'd only seen the star on the driver's door, too. Hmmm.....

Again did you find any bumper markings? If you sand down and find bumper markings that are on the original green and they are white then it was army first. If you find yellow then it was USMC.
How about hood registration numbers? The army would have been a number letter four number deal and the the Marines would have been 6 or 7 numbers.

Found nothing on the hood at all. Bumpers are horribly scratched, chipped and otherwise shot. I tried anyway, but found no markings on the bumpers at all.

Nothing to be sorry about. It's just something I'm going to start looking into more when I see other's rigs.
Maybe I've been reading too many Hardy Boys mysteries to Nick, but I feel like doing some sleuthing!

I believe I have read...but dont have time to research just now...that in the later stages of the Vietnam War or soon after, the color of the OD used changed...may have been painted to that newer spec?

Mine is a 2-67 and was US Army as it was stenciled under the hood with the hood numbers. My truck originally was GREEN not 24087 doodoo brown and not marine corp green.

I painted mine with Gillespie 24087 and it matched what was under the fenders. What I found was if you don't put enough coats of paint on it looks brownish. I painted 3 good heavy coats and they recomended 5 coats. Also it depends on what primer you used. Gillespie primer is very dark red compared to standard auto grade red. The paint will also change shades depending on the amount of light shining on it:
