Heater install: in progress

I had one just like that mounted to the passenger firewall, cab side. The hot water came off the head by the rear 2 cylinders, passenger side of the 230, so it wasnt a long run...in 20 degree weather I had a hard time keeping the windshield clear or getting heat below my knees. At temps of 0 or lower, I had to keep an ice scraper in the cab because there was essentially no defrost action and I only had a little bit of difference between outdoors and inside...not counting wind chill...I could still see my breath...

In your climate it may work, here, no way...unfortunately...I spent good money and threw it away 2 years later.

It should work OK here. With the engine and exhaust manifold heat, I figure it will help as well. I am sure that in the Great Frozen North it'd be a challenge to heat that uninsulated cab anyway...:)

At todays temp if about 35F it was plenty comfy in the cab even at 45-50 MPH. How the defrost will work is still a guess though, and if its like most early Jeeps I've driven, it'll probably be marginal anyway. I don't expect much in that respect.

Just so long as my toes aren't about to drop off that's good with me.

Very interesting stuff there, Randy. I have the same heater unit still in the box somewhere. Good idea on how to (eventually) mount it.

Not quite on topic here, but where did you get your mounts for holding the radiator? In the third pic, the ones holding the top part in position. I need something like that.

Just took a closer look at the bracketry you made. Nice fabbing skills there. Strong, simple and to the point. Nice job and now you'll be warm.

I like the M151 heater. Its compact and works well. Last night it was 26 degrees and I drove about a 20 mile round trip and stayed plenty warm in the cab. At around 50MPH its still a bit drafty in the cab, but better than no heat like before! I also wanted to keep the interior clean too. So the empty battery tray area just made sense.

The radiator mounts I fabbed up too. I had the aluminum radiator mounted conventionally to the core support with the brakets that were welded to the tanks on the side.

After a few hours of wheeling and flexing everything up, the aluminum mounts began to tear away from the radiator tanks. This setup has a cradle at the bottom and the two clamps on top to hold the radiator in a rubber mounted system, so it can still move a bit without damaging the radiator itself. I cut the original bracketry off the radiator tanks too. Looks cleaner as well, and with just two bolts I can remove the radiator now.

I will see if I have a few pics of the radiator frame as I was building it and post them if I do.
