Well today was a good day. Motor started going back together. Head got thrown in the head rotissarie my friend built and the new 60lb valve springs. The 60 lb dprings are a must for turning the motor over 3000 rpms. They keep the valves and pistons from kissing one another.

The the valves were lapped

Next was changing the rack plug. This allows the internals of the pump more travel for more fuel over a wider range. This plug can only be accessed (without grinding the timing housing......dont know why some do that) is to take the pump off or loosen it enough to get the plug out.

Next was to advance the timing. Stock timing was set at 12.5 gedrees BTDC, it was advanced to 17 degrees BTDC. This is done with a dial caliper in an adapter into thenumber 1 injection pump plunger, measuring the pump cam eccentric, measureing engine TDC, advnacing the pump timing, removing pump gear, rolling motor back to TDC and reinstalling gear. Whew
Not many pics as this wasnt a picture friendly part but here is proof at least I guess.

Ill be starting on the compound turbos this weekend. Steering box gets remounted, doubler will be resealed, shift rail mod and put back together.
Once I can see where the exhaust will run, the tube bender will be fired up to hand the transmission and transfer case.
That is work dependant. I get tons of questions of what on earth do you do to work as much as you claim. Well I manage operating rooms for organ transplants and run a kidney labs to tune up kidneys so to say before transplants. Not many of us organ preservationist so until I train up a few more I can work triple digit work week hours:baby:
