As alot of us know, these jeeps had the option for arctic heaters, both in the cab and one for the engine. Does anyone actually have a real photo of the engine water heater? Ive only ever seen black and white pictures from the manuals and was curious if anyone actually has a real photo of one and the entire set up?
I don’t have a picture and have never even seen a picture of the engine heater. I actually didn’t know it existed. Cab and cargo heaters yes, but I didn’t know about the engine one.
I will also write that if you get a picture, it might be of only that one installation and other installations could have been different. I mention that because with the M35 trucks there seems to be about a dozen different versions of the flame heater set ups. I have several of them but can’t match them up to anything in any manual.
Never seen the engine one outside of the manual stuff...scary in my opinion on a motor that tends to have oil leaks down there...
I know I have some pics on the cab artic heater....will have to find...

I was curious how common they were, obviously not very which is too bad. I was curious about potentially installing a multi fuel one in its place.
Kaiser Jeep will probably join this thread soon. He had a flame heater in his first M715 and became a pretty knowledgeable expert on it.
I bought a new NOS complete gas fired heater in the crate from John Bizal when I had my first truck. It was really neat. Every correct part and piece. It came with a 10 foot blueprint I could only read by hanging over the back of a sofa with it on the floor...LOL Anyway.. I liked it but it was stupid loud. So loud you had to almost yell to talk inside the cab. It made great heat and after running it for a few years it started to foul the igniter and not start. Even after removing it and cleaning the igniter repeatedly. I see now that the fuel pump for these heaters are pushing 300 bucks for a replacement on ebay. That alone is reason to pass this style heater up. I also think todays gas formulation is very different than the gas it was tuned and perfected on in the 1960's.
Jump up a decade or so I built my second truck as a resto mod because the parts dried up for an original build. I installed a wagoneer (or J truck ) heater in the cab and it went in well. The mounting and air passage holes are all there. I also used a mid 80's heater motor and fan because the fan was bigger and moved a lot more air. You can tell this unit by the plastic housing. I had to find ABS defroster ducts from a 66 mustang and doctor the drivers side with a heavy cut and reglue with a cut section of ABS sewer pipe to clear the OEM 3 lever light switch I wanted to keep. Simple mod using ABS glue, no big deal there. For the heater controls I got rid of the little vacuum cans and made simple brackets to hold the end of a push pull cable control for all knob controls. I then had special decals made at vintage reproductions for each knob. I designed the decals to fit the small flat area at the bottom of the dash panel. They work well. Here is a link to the decals. There is a picture of the lower dash in my build thread. And the heater mods. You will also see kick panel vent decals. I put a wagoneer set in along with the heater stuff. Why not???

I actually installed a multi fuel heater in my jeep in the spot the original gas heater would go. Got it new old stock and i can use kerosene instead of diesel to fuel it. Yea these things are loud. I have hearing damage so it doesn't bother me, but sadly i can hear my passengers complain loud and clear lol. Im going to see if i can move the heater into the engine bay since its overall size is smaller then the old gas heater. This post was mainly directly to find out information about the coolant heater, that heater it self can still be sourced nos actually but the m715 had vehicle specific brackets. I knew they were rare i just didnt it was this rare and hoped if someone had one they could get me measurements and non low quality black and white photos. In case i could potentially add both. Thanks for your knowledge id be interested in small parts from the heater set, or the whole kit depending on stuff. Im trying to track down alot of the more uncommon stuff so i may see about gathering indepth specs and information. For both documentation as well as repair. Have you looked into 100LL avgas? Its actually like the gas from the 60s and 70s and the gov has very strict requirements on it. I believe the only additive is blue identification dye, but these airlplanes use combustion heaters also.
