another (probably dumb) question

what civilian jeep has the most in common with the M715? when I search auto parts online or ebay they don't list M715, of course, but if there are common parts from another jeep I could broaden my searches. I was told that the J2000 has some commonality but wasn't sure of the accuracy of that.

The problem is that there really is no one vehicle that they share common civilian parts with. There are however civilian parts that will work on them and can be bought at the parts store. A lot of time you have to find that old school parts place with the old guy with a beard behind the counter full of actual parts books. Not the local Autozone where the pimple face teenage asks what make and model before he can look it up on the parts computer. You'll blow his mind if you tell him what make and model. Heck even if you have the part number you need, they look dumbfounded because they can't search the make and model. I have my local old school Napa guys trained, they don't even bother to ask dumb questions anymore. They just pull out the old books and look things up by sizes for me.

I have a J-Truck bench seat, heater, and hood in (on) mine, and my buddy in Wyoming has Wagoneer door panels on his. Those, I think, are a significant percentage of total J-to-715 parts interchange.

There ain’t much carryover.

Those old books Beast mentioned and the collective wisdom here are just about the only way to figure out the very few things our trucks have in common with anything else.

Then there are the work around with very similar parts that can be made to work and are readily available. Such as the Ford e250 van wheel cylinders, Jeep V8 conversion radiators and M truck lights to name a few.

you are so right about the pimply faced kid at the parts counter. I went to NAPA for some lug nut with the part number and he kept asking what kind of jeep it was. When I said Kaiser it was deer in the headlights.
