I just picked up a set of SBC motor mounts from Novak. Where should I weld them to the frame? Should I line them up where the 230 mounts were or do I need to go back or forwards more? I am keeping the stock trans

I used the same motor mounts to mount my big block, I mounted everything up and suspended the engine from an engine hoist. I made sure everything was where it needed to be and tacked the mounts to the frame, then I pulled everything out and finished welding in the mount.
I forget who it was, but someone on here who was doing an engine swap had a good idea. He moved it into place with a hoist and used turnbuckles from the block to the frame to make the fine adjustments...
If you are using your stock transmission, then it will dictate where the mounts will need to be. You'll need to bolt the engine to the transmission and see where it ends up. That will help you to determine where to install the engine mounts on the frame.
As mentioned above, an engine hoist, a jack, or even some wood blocks can be used to position the engine correctly.
Tha's the way it goes. For the frame steel quality is relatively low for European understanding, MIG welding is ok with the correct current, the weld must burn into the frame, however not burn the frame. Quality first, optics second. Try not to weld on the bends of the frame, weld on the top chord of the frame.
