first ... i have two distrubitors that came with the truck and a set of water prof plug wires. how do you check the wires to see if there any good?

The only info in the manuals I can find says to inspect visually and to check continuity...better than nothing I suppose...

Use a ohm meter (resistance) check each wire and all you can do is assume that if one or two show dramaticly more resistance, they probably are bad.
Speaking of resistance, I was working on my ignition a few months back and figured I would ohm-out the dist. cap from the inside to where the plug wires attach on the outside just for kicks. I was expecting little to no resistance but when I measured it, it was quite high (been to long to remember the exact value). I was suprised by my findings and initially wondered if I had a problem. Anyway, the truck runs fine so I guess it is suppose to be that way.

I was surprised about the resistance in the distributor cap also, but someone posted quite a while ago that this resistance is intentional. I don't remember the values either, but it's not a problem with the cap.
