alosix : 12v migration?
12v migration?

Have any of you tried a 'slow migration' from 24v to 12v?
I'm thinking of just tapping the battery closest to the ground for 12v and running those accessories off of that, finally finishing when the 6bt goes in.
Probably building a new harness as I go. for lighting and any other ACC.

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic...both on this site and others...bottom line, if you draw more than about 3 to 5 amps on a regular basis from one battery in excess of what you are drawing from both...you will end up with one of the following situations when the batteries recharge:
1. The fuller battery will reach full charge and the other battery will be at less than full charge...it will keep getting lower and lower in charge compared to the first....death of the battery will occur.
2. The more drained battery will cause the charging system to keep charging until it is full...which will constantly overcharge the fuller battery....death of the battery will occur.
Basically then, it isnt good unless its done with a low amount of amps...I would suggest that if you do it, you keep up on the state of charge in both batteries and be prepared to pull battery cables and charge at least one of them seperately.
I tried to run stuff on my truck that way....I ate a battery a year until I put in a 24 to 12 volt converter of 20 amp continuous rating/23 amp peak and have run that without problems for several years now.
Just my 2 cents....
There used to be an article on this that had much more detail online by a man named Jack Chomley....I think that is spelled right...I'll see if its still around....
