rocker panel slots
As I begin too carefully remove the rust damaged floor sheetmetal.
I can't help but wonder what's the slots in the top of the rockers for, other than letting water in so they will rust out from the inside?
check out the high quality patch panel I removed.

I think the slots come from the civilian rockers. I think they are used for fastening the sill plates, and since the tooling ws probably the same...

As you began to carefully remove the rust-damaged sheet metal in the floor area and wondered about the slots in the rocker panels, your assumption made about the design purpose is likely correct; the slots were probably designed to let water weep out of the floor area, as the door weather-stripping prevents water drainage.

You've got some rust there my friend! I had my entire cab sandblasted and my floor looked mint. When I got it back, I had swiss cheese in that area where your hole is. I just finished patching those areas. Took me a month with the cab on a rotisserie. The repairs are invisible now both from underneath and from the inside of the cab. Either you take your time and do a great job or rush and it'll look like crap.
All I can say is that you'll need a good mig welder, air grinders, and body hammers and dollies to get it perfect. Then the body filler and Gillespie paints...and for anyone using Gillespie paint right now with this heat and humidity, plan on reducing it almost 1:1 since at the recommended 2:1, the paint is jamming up the spray pattern even with a 1.6 tip.

The slots are for mounting the sill plates on the civvy truck. Mikel is correct.
