I am restoring/modifying my m715 and am converting it to 12 volt. Since I am going to 12 volt, how can I get my fuel gauge to work? Do I have to put in a new sending unit, or what do I need to do?

A new sending unit, and new gauge. Make sure they are compatible. I think there is a Ohm variance that they both should be the same. Someone with electrical knowledge will know more that I do. I'm just happy mine worked the first time.
the sending unit in the tank uses a range of resistance to tell the gauge where to point. It seems that there are at least 3 common ranges for the sending unit. does anyone know what the range is on the M715? the thing is, it shouldnt matter what voltage you are using as long as the sending unit matches what the gauge is expecting to see. I have read some posts already using the aftermarket napa stuff but it seems like its pretty cheaply made. it would be nice to just find a gauge that matches the original sending unit.
The stock sending unit and gauge use a 0-30 ohm scale that is not found in any civilian application. There is an old GM car sender that uses a 0-30 scale but it is backwards of the M715 scale...so using that unit would make the gauge read full when the tank is empty and empty when the tank is full...
There are tons of scales...GM modern, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Stewart Warner...etc.
Just make sure you get a matching set...the gauuge and the sender that are the same scale.
